Watford to Croxley Green - Part 4

Westward we went, and the undergrowth got thicker and thicker, and it got harder to see the track, (Max is standing on the middle of it).

It did occasionally clear, but it soon got overgrown again.

Ben leading the way, holding some of his "treasure":

The end of the line... well sort of. Disassembly of the line seemed to have started here, but they clearly hadn't got very far. A lot of the screws holding the rails down had been removed, but in most places they hadn't got as far as lifting the track.

I guess this was a signal for lazy signalmen.

And so we came to the real end of the line. Just behind the boys is the road whose building required the removal of the embankment and track.

Time to scramble down a bank and get back to civilization.

This is the end of the line we were just standing on.

But on the other side of the road was the continuation of the embankment. Would there be any track left up there? We had to climb more fences first, and also navigate some very soft mud to find out. Unfortunately Max sunk up to his knees in the mud!

After a ten minute delay spent fishing his shoes out of the stinking goo, we then climbed back up the bank to attempt to cross the river.

The track's still here! Looking back East towards the hole in the track.

But West there is a big spiky fence...

Is this the end of the line for us? You'll have to find out in part 5!
